Birth Debriefing

mother and baby birth debriefing

Birth can be transformative. It can be filled with joy and power, bathing the body with oxytocin and endorphins in readiness for mothering. It can also be disappointing, unpredictable and in some cases traumatic. Women’s feelings of shock and sadness after a difficult birth experience are silenced by well meaning “at least you have a healthy baby, that’s all that matters”. It’s not all that matters. You matter. Your experience matters.

“I think about you every day. Every time I’m having a quiet moment with my daughter, I think about you and how the birth and everything surrounding it made her the star she is. I have you to thank for that…” - Caroline, Mum of 2

At Mama Sanctuary we are acutely aware of the importance of the birth experience. Whether you longed for a physiological birth and the reality was far from this, or you had planned a calm and gentle caesarean but your labour started before, birth trauma is personal, unique and debilitating. It can affect birth partners too, they can also benefit from a birth debrief. When you feel ready, birth debriefing can enable you to explore your memories of the birth and gently help process the trauma you may have experienced.
