Postnatal Support
The postnatal period is also known as ‘the fourth trimester’. The time in which your baby is learning how to be a separate entity from you, and the time for you to recover from birth and begin to get to know your new baby. You may have heard the phrase ‘it takes a village to raise a child.’ Throughout history and in many cultures women are revered during this time, nurtured to rest with their baby and focus on rebuilding emotional and physical strength following the pregnancy and birth. In the UK this can be a very different experience.
“I honestly don’t think I'd have survived the first 28 days without you! You just got how I was feeling and also asked me such very important questions that so many others were scared to ask. I can never thank you enough”- Charlotte, Mum of 2
For many women living in our modern world, rest and recouperation are not seen as necessities for the fourth trimester, and it is not uncommon for women to be living without the support of family or friends locally. This ‘village’, is not a reality for many women. Isolation and lack of recovery time can impact on the journey to feeling safe and empowered as a new mother. Mama Sanctuary will support you to recover, and will nurture you in your vital role as a new mother.
